Men’s Devo: Day 3
Fight Night Men’s Devotional – Fight For Your Faith 2
Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV)
“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
Reflection:
In 1 Timothy 6:12, the apostle Paul is telling Timothy, his protege, to fight the good fight of faith and take hold of the eternal life that God has called him to. This implies two things: RESISTING sin while simultaneously PURSUING godliness. There are constantly going to be things in your life that challenge your faith as a man of God, and if you are not careful you could find yourself ensnared in sin that will lead you away from the amazing life and purpose that God has for you. Sin seems pleasurable for a short time, but in the end it will always take you farther than you wanted to go and will cost you more than you ever wanted to pay. However, Jesus himself said that he came to give abundant life (John 10:10)! So how can we as men fight the good fight of faith and pursue the life that Jesus has called us to?
Action Steps:
- Be Purposeful in Prayer: There is power in prayer. It is your lifeline to God and is as simple as just talking to him. Prayer is evidence of your dependence on God. He wants to hear from you and you need Him! Create a habit of praying consistently knowing that as you pray to Him he will give you strength to fight the good fight!
- Be Saturated in Scripture: Commit to reading the Bible daily, even if it is just a single verse that you think on throughout the day. God’s Word is food for your soul. It is the source of truth for your life and will help you relate to God and know Him better.
- Be In Community : We weren’t meant to live this life alone. In fact, we can’t. We were made for community. Get in a group with other men who will encourage you, share in your struggles, celebrate your victories, and hold you accountable. As in any battle, there is strength in numbers, and the battle for your faith is no different.
- Tell Your Testimony: One of the greatest evidences of the radical life-changing power of Christ is the story of what He has done in your own life. Ask God for boldness to share your faith, to proclaim the good news of Jesus, and to tell your testimony. It could not only help someone else find Jesus, but will strengthen your faith as well!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of faith and the promise of eternal life that is found only in Jesus. Help me to fight the good fight and to stand firm as a man of God, by resisting sin and pursuing you wholeheartedly. I pray that you would give me the strength to fight for my faith with a desire to do what pleases you! Help me to trust your plan for my life and to glorify you in all things. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen!
