Dwell – Day 18
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.
Understanding God’s love for us is something that I will never fully grasp, and I think I’m okay with that. As a woman, I want to know anything and everything that is going on. I want to know who said what about me, what you think of the newest TV show, and to put it simply: everything!
As a human, and especially as a woman, I find it to be so difficult not knowing and comprehending the sheer size of our God, and that in reality, we aren’t supposed to.
It wasn’t until recently that I got the concept of how large our God is and His true love for us, until I heard and understood the term “Agape”. The greek term is the definition of God’s love for us meaning the highest form of love, or the unconditional love that He has for us.
Because our Father is so much more that we know, I find peace knowing that His love for me is never dependent on my actions. This doesn’t by any means mean that I go around gladly sinning, and disobeying Him as if I’d gotten a “get out of jail free card” but simply means that however far I have strayed away from Him, and regardless of whatever season I’m in, He will always love me, and will always be able to come back to Him. This form of agape love truly shows the unconditional love He has for us, and what it means to be a follower of Christ.
As you go about your day today, I pray that you find your peace, knowing and understanding that God’s love for you will surpass your every understanding, and that even in your darkest moments He knows you by name, knows how many hairs you have on your head, and has knitted you in your mothers womb, and wants more than anything to be apart of your life.
1 John 4:7-8
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
