Foundations Devotional: Week 2, Day 1
Day 1 – Community
Scripture Reading: Acts 2:42-47
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Reflection: In this passage of Scripture we get a glimpse of what life was like for the early church in the 1st century. The early church exemplified the power of community, which is still foundational even today. They shared meals, prayers, and their lives with one another. The basis their relationship was founded on the love of Christ, which extended out to one another and then to the surrounding community. Reflect on the importance of fellowship in your life. What steps can you take to deepen your relationships with other believers?
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank you for the community that is the Church. I pray that you would help me to build authentic connections within my church community. Teach me to honor you as I support and encourage others as we grow together in faith. Amen.
