Foundations Devotional: Week 4, Day 4
Day 4: Time’s True Value
Psalm 90:12
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Time is the great equalizer—whether wealthy or poor, influential or unknown, each of us receives exactly 24 hours each day. Yet how easily we squander this precious, non- renewable resource! This prayer of Moses reveals a crucial connection between understanding the finite nature of our time and developing true wisdom.
To “number our days” isn’t merely about counting them; it’s about making them count.
It’s about developing a keen awareness that each day is a gift from God with specific purposes and opportunities. This awareness should drive us to be intentional about how we spend our hours and minutes.
Consider this: if you knew you had exactly one year left to live, how would your
schedule change? What activities would you eliminate? What relationships would you prioritize? What kingdom work would you pursue? While we don’t know our exact number of days, we do know they are limited, and wisdom comes from living with this reality in view.
This verse invites us to view time as a sacred trust from God—something to be
stewarded carefully and invested wisely. Just as we would carefully manage a valuable financial investment, we should be even more diligent in managing our time for eternal returns.
Reflection Questions:
1. How much of your typical day is spent on activities with eternal significance?
2. What time-wasting habits need to be eliminated from your life?
3. What one change could you make to better steward your time for God’s kingdom?
Prayer Focus:
Lord, make me deeply aware of time’s precious nature. Grant me wisdom
to invest my days in what matters most to You.
