Foundations Devotional: Week 4, Day 3
Day 3: The Source of All
Colossians 1:16
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
In our age of self-made success stories and entrepreneurial achievements, it’s easy to forget a fundamental truth: everything ultimately traces back to God as its source. This verse serves as a cosmic reset button for our perspective on ownership and stewardship.
The scope of this verse is breathtaking— “all things” encompasses not just the material world we can see and touch, but also the invisible realm of authority, power, and spiritual reality. Nothing exists outside of God’s creative authority.
This includes your talents, your resources, your opportunities, and even your very existence.
This truth has profound implications for how we view our possessions and abilities. If everything was created “through him and for him,” then we’re not owners but stewards.
Every dollar in our account, every skill we’ve developed, every relationship we
enjoy—all of it is on loan from the Creator, intended to serve His purposes.
Understanding this changes how we approach everything in life. Our careers become platforms for ministry, our resources become tools for kingdom work, and our talents become gifts to be invested in eternal purposes rather than merely personal gain.
Reflection Questions:
1. How would your decisions change if you constantly remembered that everything you have belongs to God?
2. In what areas of your life do you tend to act more like an owner than a steward?
3. What one thing could you reimagine using “for him” this week?
Prayer Focus:
Father, help me remember that everything I have comes from You and
belongs to You. Guide me in using all You’ve entrusted to me for Your glory and
purposes.
