Proverbs 1

“We all need wisdom”
Proverbs 1

Okay, ladies… this time, we’re diving into Proverbs together! We asked ladies from Crosspoint to cover a chapter a day – so by the end of one month, we will have read through Proverbs together!

And let me just start with this: this book does not play around. It’s like a spiritual GPS that says ‘recalculating’ without judging you for making a U-turn for the fifth time. Or your mom when she’s in ‘I love you, but you know better’ mode—gentle but firm, with that eyebrow raise of truth. Or that friend who can call you out when you are acting out.

Proverbs 1 kicks things off with a very clear message: you’re going to need wisdom.

The good news? God isn’t stingy with wisdom! In fact, beginning in verse 20, Solomon describes wisdom as being out in the streets, shouting, trying to get our attention.

But here’s the kicker—most of us walk right by.

Proverbs 1 is a call to stop ignoring the voice of wisdom and start listening. Like, really listening. Because when life gets messy (and we know it will,) we’ll be grateful we didn’t go it alone with only our feelings and a Pinterest quote or the advice of a bad friend to guide us. God’s wisdom is always right.

This first chapter of Proverbs sets the tone: God’s wisdom is available.

But the choice is yours… Do you continue to try to figure things out on your own, powering through life’s challenges, asking advice, and saying “I got this?” Or, do you dig into God’s word, pray and listen for His wisdom and discernment?

Our hope as we dive into Proverbs together this month is that you will do just that – slow down, lean in and stop thinking we can Google our way through spiritual growth and life’s greatest challenges.

Reflection Questions:

  1. As we begin this devotional series, what can you do to set yourself up for success? Do you need to carve out time to be more consistent? Do you need to find someone to hold you accountable? Do you need to post your daily devo on social media as form of accountability? Do you need to set up a place in your home for time with Jesus? Day 1 is a great day to work through those details.
  2. What area(s) of your life feels like a “don’t worry, I got this” zone… but maybe need a little (or a lot) more wisdom?

Short Prayer:
Lord, as I start this journey through Proverbs, open my heart to Your voice. Calm the distractions and worries so I can sit and listen for your wisdom, discernment and guidance. Help me admit where I’ve been tuning You out. Lord, I want to trade my pride for Your wisdom. Convict me when I am tempted to skip this time with you. I’m ready to grow closer to you. Amen.
