- Contagious: “communicable by contact” describes something that is very easily transmitted. It is likely to spread to and affect others.
- Generosity: the willingness and action of giving away good things to others freely and abundantly.
- So contagious generosity means spreading to others the willingness to freely give of one’s time, talents and treasure.
Luke 19:30-35
He said, “Go into the village over there. When you enter it, you will find tied up there a colt that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say, ‘Its master needs it.’” 32 Those who had been sent found it exactly as he had said.
33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 They replied, “Its master needs it.” 35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their clothes on the colt, and lifted Jesus onto it.
The Master has need of it
Lev. 27:30
A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD…
Malachi 3:10
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that my house may be full…
- Our generosity is affected by who we see as master.
8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you.
- When we don’t tithe, we rob God.
